From the fishman's wharf, the Alcatraz Island is about 1.5 miles away. If you have seen the rock (film casted by Sean Connery and Nic Cage), this is "the" place! It was indeed a state prison before. Now it becomes a tourist place and there are ferries everyday which takes thousands of people to see the place. I heard that a lot of people even pay to be able to stay in the prison cell for some time. I am a big fan of the rock . Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to land on the island myself.
